What Is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is a term that is now commonly used by both professional car detailers and car cleaning enthusiasts. It describes the process of restoration and rejuvenating the paintwork of a vehicle.
This is achieved by elimination of surface imperfections, that dull, oxidize, or haze the surface. These imperfections include things like swirl marks & fine scratches, bird dropping etching &, hologramming & buffer trails.

Picture the painted surface of your car as a smooth, mirror. Over time, dust, dirt, and other contaminants build up on that smooth surface. Unfortunately, the process of washing dirt and dust away causes the fine particles to act like sandpaper, scratching and digging grooves into the once smooth polished surface. As these fine scratches build up, the surface becomes dull and hazed. See Below Left.
The polishing is usually a multistage process. A range of different grades of polish are used. These range from heavier cutting compounds, to finer polishing products. As the paint is worked through multiple stages, a virtually defect-free finish can be achieved. Leaving a flawless finish, often better than new! During the paint correction process it is common for a paint depth gauge to be used. We offer several different levels of service, ranging from a single stage, to full, and complete correction.
Paint correction is a very labor intensive process and is usually the most time consuming part of the car detailing process. Consequently, it requires extensive experience and patience which commands high premiums from professional detailers & automobile reconditioning experts.
Before any paint correction is undertaken, a thorough wash and decontamination of the vehicle is performed. Paintwork is properly washed and cleaned to remove any loose dirt and debris. Then after the wash process, paint and trim are clayed with a specialist automotive clay bar.
This safely removes any bonded surface contaminants such as tar spots, brake dust, and industrial fallout making the surface smooth and clean.
Once the painted surface is perfected, it is now ready for a protective layer. Protection comes in the form of waxes, sealants, and nano ceramic coatings. Waxes and sealants are applied in the same way, but offer differing types of protection. All will protect the painted surface from acid rain, fallout, bird droppings and tree sap. A hard carnuba wax will provide natural moisture and oils which is a great way to protect your vehicle against the elements.
Paint sealant is a synthetic polymer that will provide a high gloss finish yet will last much longer than a wax. Today’s paint sealants have a higher melting point than wax. Nano Ceramic Coatings protect and retain a high gloss durable barrier that last for years compared to months. These Technically advanced coatings are State of the Art and are unlike anything!
